    The door
Go and open the door, what door?
Maybe outside there’s a tree, or a wood, I wish I could get there.
A garden or a magic city, I’ve always wanted to be magic.

Go and open the door, I still can’t see the door.
Maybe a dog’s rummaging, maybe it’s my dog.
Maybe you’ll see a face, Who’s could it be?
Or an eye, or a picture of a picture, could someone bring it back for me?

Go and open the door, which way is it?
If there’s a fog it will clear, what will clear it?

Go and open the door, how big is this door?
Even if there’s just the darkness ticking, even if I could find the door,
Even if there’s only the hollow wind, what could be on the other side?
Even if nothing is there, I still have to find the door.
Go and open the door. I’m sure there is no door.

At least there’ll be a draught, is that what clears the fog?

    The Door

Go and open the door. Where will it take me?
    Maybe outside Outside?
there’s a tree, There is already a tree
or a wood, Already a wood
    a garden, Already a garden
or a magic city. I don’t need a magic city

Go and open the door. Why do I need to?
    Maybe a dog’s rummaging. I’ve got a dog
    Maybe you’ll see a face, I’ve got a mirror
or an eye, I’ve got an eye
    or the picture
of a picture. I’ve seen the picture

Go and open the door. I’m happy, warm
If there’s a fog That will only make it dreary,
    it will clear. Damp

Go and open the door. Give it a break already
    Even if there’s only
the darkness ticking, I like the light
even if there’s only The protection
    the hollow wind, The warmth
    even if The security
    nothing The familiarity
    is there, Home
Go and open the door. The door is staying closed

    At least
    there’ll be
a draught. I will lose it all

  3.   Boydon 13 Aug 2007 at 2:04 pm

    Go and open the door.
    I’m scared,
    Maybe outside there’s
    Something I don’t like
    A tree, a wood,
What if the tree falls on me, or I get lost in the wood,
    a garden,
What if I can’t look after the garden,
    or a magic city.
    I’m not magic

    Go and open the door.
    But I’m happy here
    Maybe a dog’s rummaging.
    What if it bites me.
    Maybe you’ll see a face,
What if the face is ugly,
    Or an eye
What if the eye sees me
    Or the picture
    Of a picture.
    But that’s a fake.

    Go and open the door.
    What if I can’t
    If there’s a fog
I wont know where I’m going
    It will clear
Who knows where I will end up

    Go and open the door.
But then what will protect me
    Even if there’s only
    The darkness ticking,
But there are monsters in the dark
    Even if there’s only
    The hollow wind,
    I don’t like the wind
    Even if
    Nothing
    Is there
    Go and open the door.
    Maybe I will
    At least
    There’ll be
    A draught.
A draft would be good it’s getting hot in here

Hamish: This is an imaginative response that evokes feelings of safety associated with the security of the known. Excellent work.

  5.   msbarnsleyon 13 Aug 2007 at 6:58 pm

Boyd: Well done. This clearly expresses the uncertainty associated with change and the possible negatives we can encounter. Creative and thoughtful work.

  6.   msbarnsleyon 13 Aug 2007 at 7:01 pm

Jarrod: This response has a hopeful and inquisitive tone that works well with the original piece. Your response is open to change – nice work.

    The Door

    Proper

Go and open the door; Yeah, I need a change from the pressures of work, my boss and the constant struggles of this world.
    Maybe outside there’s
a tree, or a wood; I could do nothing in the forest, I could get lost for hours, with no troubles, or projects or boss. Loss myself and the all my troubles in the forest
    a garden,
or a magic city. Where I would be my own boss
Go and open the door. I really need a change
Maybe a dog’s rummaging. I could sit and watch, do nothing but watch the world go by
    Maybe you’ll see a face,
or an eye, I could see the face of someone special, someone who does care for me and my life
or the picture I could find myself. Reassess my life and the meaning of it
    of a picture.
Go and open the door. Yes I will change!
    If there’s a fog
it will clear. Time for change, any change I will make the best of it.
    Go and open the door.
    Even if there’s only
    the darkness ticking,
    even if there’s only
    the hollow wind,
    even if
    nothing
    is there,
    go and open the door.
    At least
    there’ll be
a draught. That right I need to break free of this world and find what is truly important.

    By Miroslav Holub

    Fun!

Go and open the door; Yeah I wonder whats out there
    Maybe outside there’s
a tree, or a wood; that would be a bit very boring and lonely
a garden, with sweet scented flowers?
or a magic city. Where I could rule and do anything I want
Go and open the door. Do I turn the knob to the left of right?
Maybe a dog’s rummaging. I could go for a run and play with it, (my dog never runs its so fat)
Maybe you’ll see a face, Could be my girlfriends, but which one?
or an eye, Hope its not the Lord of the Rings one
    or the picture
of a picture. Or a picture, of a picture, of a picture
Go and open the door. Yeh I got It! I will
If there’s a fog Freezing, I could get a cold, typical Armidale!
it will clear. How do you know?
Go and open the door. I heard you the first time!
    Even if there’s only
    the darkness ticking,
    even if there’s only
the hollow wind, Hollow wind, that unusual!
    even if
    nothing
    is there,
    go and open the door.
    At least
    there’ll be
a draught. Yeah life has got a bit boring, I need something different

Thank Cameron. I like how you have taken different approaches to the poem. The first has a sense of how change is tied to personal identity and how we see ourselves in the world. Your responses to the imperative command reflect the insistent tone in the original. Well done.

    The Door
    Quick get the doorbell
Maybe a war is raging outside
Maybe a kid has fallen of his bike
    Quick get the doorbell
Maybe there is a manging dog that is about to rip your face off or maybe cute little lost puppy
    Quick get the doorbell
Maybe a postie is there waiting with your mail
Even if there’s only a bill
    Quick get the doorbell
Even if it was a little kid pranking the door bell
    just
    get the door bell
    At least
    You’ll know you checked

Go and open the door. What if…
    Maybe outside there’s
    a tree, or a wood,
    a garden,
    or a magic city.
Go and open the door. Why?
    Maybe a dog’s rummaging.
    Maybe you’ll see a face,
    or an eye,
    or the picture
    of a picture.
Go and open the door. So?
    If there’s a fog
    it will clear.
Go and open the door. And…
    Even if there’s only
    the darkness ticking,
    even if there’s only
    the hollow wind,
    even if
    nothing
    is there,
go and open the door. Na…
    At least
    there’ll be
    a draught.

    Sure lets go
    There could be anything
Any change is better then none
But some are great and can change your life
    Sure lets go
    Cool a pet
    Some one to visit
    Big Brothers watching
The rest of the world is there waiting

    Sure lets go
    It might seem bad
    But it will get better

    Sure lets go
    There is nothing there
    Just darkness
    There is nothing there
    Just a wind
But I’ll open it anyway cause there could be something

Even if it seems to be nothing then try anyway so you wont miss anything and there will always be something.

The Door - No I feel safe in here and I don’t like gardens
    Go and open the door.
    Maybe outside there’s
    a tree, or a wood,
    a garden,
    or a magic city.

Go and open the door - I like the company of dogs but who knows the
Maybe a dog’s rummaging. Extent of danger lurking in my yard
    Maybe you’ll see a face,
    Or an eye,
    Or the picture
    of a picture.

Go and open the door. - Well I will think about it when the fog has cleared
    If there’s a fog
    It will clear.

Go and open the door. - I’m staying inside as the current state outside
Even if there’s only doesn’t sound too exciting
    the darkness ticking,
    even if there’s only
    the hollow wind,

even if - I would rather stay where I am achieving
nothing something rather than pursuing nothing outside my door
    is there,
    go and open the door.

At least - I need some fresh air now so some clear air might
    there’ll be do me good
    a draught.

Go and open the door. Yeah why not, it”s boring in here
    Maybe outside there’s
    a tree, or a wood,
a garden, and maybe I could climb this tree or get lost in the wood
or a magic city. Then fly around the magic city
Go and open the door. Yes that’s what I am doing!
Maybe a dog’s rummaging. Why would the dog need to rummage in a magic city
Maybe you’ll see a face, don’t like strangers
or an eye, or strangers eyes
or the picture, I like pictures
of a picture. Pictures on their own
Go and open the door. You already told me
    If there’s a fog , I’ll take a jacket
it will clear. Then I will take it off
Go and open the door. Yeah I got it!
    Even if there’s only
the darkness ticking, I’ll take a torch
    even if there’s only
the hollow wind, I wont feel it
    even if
    nothing
is there, the ads would have finished by now
go and open the door. I already have
    At least
    there’ll be
a draught. And now I know

  14.   Henryon 17 Aug 2007 at 10:59 am

Go and open the door, I’m not sure about this
Maybe outside, there is something dangerous
    there’s a tree, I’ve already seen a tree
or a wood, And a wood
    a garden, And a garden
or a magic city. Magic is frightening

Go and open the door. No the door is staying shut?
Maybe a dog’s rummaging. Dogs can bite
    Maybe you’ll see a face, a stranger
or an eye, I have eyes
or the picture of a picture. That isn’t exciting

Go and open the door. I’ve made up my mind
If there’s a fog I wont be able to see
it will clear. It will still be cold

Go and open the door. The door can not be opened
    Even if there’s only
the darkness ticking, Whats the point if it is dark
    even if there’s only
the hollow wind, the wind will blow my face
    even if
    nothing
is there, that is completely pointless

Go and open the door. NO!
    At least
    there’ll be
a draught. It will take everything

    The Door

    Go and open the door.
    Why?
    Maybe outside there’s
    a tree, or a wood,
    a garden,
    or a magic city.

    Oh I don’t think I Should?

    Go and open the door.
    I can’t see!
    Maybe a dog’s rummaging.
    Maybe you’ll see a face,
    or an eye,
    or the picture
    of a picture.

    I don’t want to see!

    Go and open the door.
    Who’s there?
    If there’s a fog
    it will clear.

    How do you know?

    Go and open the door.
    If I must!
    Even if there’s only
    the darkness ticking,
    even if there’s only
    the hollow wind,
    even if
    nothing
    is there,
    (silence)

    go and open the door.
    I will, I will!
    At least
    there’ll be
    a draught.
    Few!

    Go and lock the door
    Maybe outside there’s
A tree monster or a garden gnome
    To stub your toe on

    Go and lock the door
    Maybe a dog’s prowling
    Maybe you’ll see a face
    Of someone you hate
    Or the picture
    Of nothing special

    Go and lock the door
    If there is a fog
    You can’t see what’s hiding

    Go and lock the door
    Especially if the
    The darkness is ticking
    Especially if the hollow
    Wind is blowing

    Go and lock the door

    You know
    It’s just
    How you
    Left it

  17.   Alex Pon 18 Aug 2007 at 11:55 am

Go and open the door. But why?
Maybe outside there’s Maybe? Maybe! How do I know?
a tree, or a wood, How do I know exactly what
a garden, will be out there
or a magic city I’ll just be disappointed…

Go and open the door. It’s too risky
    Maybe a dog’s rummaging. Scary
Maybe you’ll see a face, I’m happy here
or an eye, It’s nice and warm
    or a picture Secure
of a picture. Why fix what isn’t broken?

Go and open the door. How do I know it’s worth it?
if there’s a fog Whatever is out there,
it will clear. Could be dangerous…

Go and open the door. I don’t need to
Even if there’s only What I don’t know can’t hurt me
the darkness ticking, I can live without it
even if there’s only I don’t even know if it
the hollow wind, would be worth it
even if nothing is there, Why?

go and open the door. What if there is nothing?
At least there will be a draught What if…

  18.   Josephon 20 Aug 2007 at 4:36 pm

    step away from the door.
    it’s just your imagination,
    there’s nothing good out there.

    Step back from the door.
Why do you want to leave?
why do you need to look at pictures?

    get clear of the door,
you don’t know what a fog can hide.

    Be afraid of the door!
There’s worse things than nothing out there.
nothing wouldn’t need a door to hold it back.
    Be afraid of the door.

    Draughts.
    i hate draughts.
